Denise Abston

Senior Pastor

Denise and her husband Chuck have been married for thirty-one years. They have three adult sons, Russ, Chris and Jeff. She was recently appointed to the Edmond Free Methodist Church as the Senior Pastor. She serves as the Dean of Superintendents for the Mid-America Conference and serves on the Butterfield Memorial Foundation and Women’s Ministries International boards. She also works full-time for a mid-size law firm specializing in insurance defense in downtown Oklahoma City as an office administrator and legal assistant. She has a Masters of Arts degree in Leadership in Ministry from Greenville College, Illinois; a Bachelor of Science degree in Legal Studies from Oklahoma City University and is currently working on a doctorate degree in pastoral counseling. She is an adjunct professor primarily teaching philosophy and theology courses at St. Gregory’s University. She wrote A Developmental Model for Ministry to the Poor in 2006 and has written numerous other articles and publications.


Nathan Hartzell

Associate Pastor

Rev. Nathan Hartzell is from Midwest City, OK. He graduated from Central Christian College of Kansas with a bachelors degree in general ministry. He became an elder in the Free Methodist Church in 2011. He served as an associate pastor at a church in Arkansas. He is currently the Associate Pastor for our church and his emphasis is in leadership development, youth and young adult ministries. He is married to Heather and has a daughter named Olivia. In his spare time Nathan enjoys watching and playing soccer and can occasionally be seen attending Energy FC games. He also enjoys finding good and interesting books to read.


Heather Hartzell

Nursery Director

Heather is from Midwest City, Oklahoma and currently serves as our Nursery Director. Heather has served in various roles in children’s ministry since 2002 including nursery volunteer, interim nursery director, Sunday school teacher, and vacation bible school volunteer.   She attended the University of Central Oklahoma where she received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Family Life Education in 2009. She furthered her education at John Brown University where she graduated with a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with an emphasis in Community Counseling. She currently works as a Licensed Professional Counselor under supervision offering counseling services to families and children in the Oklahoma Metro area. Heather has been married to Nathan for 6 years and they have a daughter named Olivia.  In her free time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and reading.


Ken banks

Worship Leader

Ken Banks is married to his wife Christa. Ken has three grown sons and three grandchildren. He is an IT professional and has served the Edmond Free Methodist Church since 1996 in several capacities including: adult Sunday school teacher, praise team member/leader and now worship leader.  Ken and his wife Christa are avid movie fans. His other hobbies include (but are not limited to) playing the guitar, primarily for worship, disc golf, pocket billiards, chess and martial arts.
